Hashbituary

Two Stroke

It is with sadness that we report that
Douglas "Two Stroke" Woolley
passed away in Phuket on
Thursday 16 February 2017

Always a proud Aussie, at 76 Doug had travelled and worked around the world. He spoke French and German with ease, flew airplanes, was an internationally competetive marksman and a local Tourist Police volunteer. Two Stroke ran 184 Hash Runs with Phuket HHH and ran in several hashes before moving here. For the last several years he has been our Saturday On-site Registrar, our Volunteering Coordinator and just lately our Hash Quack. He was very active with the Phuket Tinmen, haring many runs and as Hash Flash. September this year would of been his anniversary for fifty years of Hashing worldwide. Our condolences and thoughts go to his wonderful partner Khun Duang Give Me A Stroke at this very sad time. Doug will be sadly missed by all at Phuket HHH. We will hold a minute of silence before the Run on Saturday and we will invite anyone into the circle who wishes to share a personal memory with us.

Chicken George has kindly offered to write a personal eulogy for Doug, in due course, for posting here. If anyone wishes to contribute please contact the webmaster.

Two Stroke Memories

I first met Doug when I joined AUH4 (Abu Dhabi Island HHH) in early 1985. No Hashnames on AUH4 in those days, so he was just Doug or Dougie. As the Phuket obit says, a proud Aussie who didn't suffer fools gladly but a heart of gold to help out anyone with a genuine problem.

I've endeavoured to let as many of the old AUH4 crowd as possible know about Doug's passing so hopefully others may send their memories also.

Besides me being a keen Hashman, I was also a dedicated scuba diver and persuaded many Hashers/Harriettes to embrace scuba and as a qualified instructor helped train many of them. Doug took to scuba like the proverbial duck to water and we had many memorable weekends diving in the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean.

When not diving, weekends were spent on the Hash Beach playing Beach Volleyball at which Dougie was a considerable artist and consuming vast quantities of beer.

Coincidentally, Doug's daughter Amanda and my own daughter Jenny were best of friends from kindergarten onwards and remain mates to this day.

Had so much fun with the old bugger.

On On Two Stroke,
  Bugfucker (AKA Jim Darbyshire)
